German Cup - FC Bayern Reserves vs. Werder Bremen
Werder
Bremen are away to the FC Bayern Reserves in the
German Cup on Tuesday March 1st at 7:30pm.
Werder welcome back Christian Lisztes into the squad for
the first time since he suffered his knee injury in
April. Captain Frank Baumann, Ludovic Magnin and
Ivan Klasnic have all been ruled out due to injury.
Coach
Thomas Schaaf travelled to Munich with the following
squad: Reinke, Walke, Ismael, Pasanen, Stalteri,
Fahrenhorst, Schulz, Davala, Lisztes, Jensen, Borowski,
Ernst, Micoud, Valdez, Hunt, Klose, Zidan, Banecki.

Werder Bremen 4 VfL Bochum 0
Werder Bremen responded convincingly to the domestic
challenge with a 4-0 victory over VfL Bochum.
After a sloppy first half, Werder were fortunate to end
the half with a goal in the 45th minute from Valerin
Ismaël.
Second half goals from Captain Frank Baumann, Nelson
Valdez and Johan Micoud sealed the victory for the
defending German Champions. They remain within 4
points of leaders Bayern Munich.
"It
was good to rebound from the disappointing mid-week
game. We got our three points today and now need
to concentrate on reaching the final four in the Cup"
says Paul Stalteri. Stalteri played rightback for
90 minutes.
Werder travel to Munich twice next week. Tuesday
they face the Bayern Munich Reserve squad in a German
cup match and then they return to face Bayern Munich on
Saturday.

Werder Bremen face VfL Bochum on Saturday February 25th
in the Weser Stadium. After suffering a
disappointing Champions League loss, the defending
Bundesliga champions need to shift their attention to
the domestic league.
Bochum won last week at home against Freiburg, but are
still in relegation territory with 19 points.
Werder have had an impressive four game winning streak
and need to take an additional three points on Saturday
if they wish to remain in the title race.
"Playing teams battling for relegation is always
challenging. We had a disappointing result on
Wednesday and we need to pick up the pieces and
concentrate on our next task" says Paul Stalteri.
In a
rare transfer during this time of the year, Gustavo Nery
has left Werder for Corinthians San Paolo on loan for
the remainder of the season.
Werder will be without striker Ivan Klasnic on Saturday
after he picked up a minor injury in the warm up on
Wednesday night before the Lyon game. Coach Thomas
Schaaf has selected the following 18-man squad:
Reinke, Pasanen, Ernst, Fahrenhorst, Baumann, Davala,
Stalteri, Micoud, Klose, Hunt, Jensen, Zidan, Magnin,

Werder Bremen came away from the AWD Arena victorious
with a 4-1 victory in the north derby. They are
still four points behind leaders Bayern Munich and one
away from Schalke 04 who play tomorrow.
Werder opened the scoring after 5 minutes and were up by
two goals after just 7 minutes played. Hannover
brought the game within one after a set-piece goal from
Dariusz Zuraw in the 38th minute.
Hannover fought hard to try to tie the game, but Werder
were the first ones to strike after half-time.
Fabian Ernst and substitute Mohammad Zidan secured the
victory for Werder with second half goals.

Following a strong Performance in the Weser Stadium,
Werder Bremen are now in third place four points off the
pace.
Goals
from newcomers Aaron Hunt and Mohammad Zidan sealed the
victory for Werder. Hunt who recently celebrated
his 18th birthday was given a chance to impress in his
first Bundesliga game after striker Ivan Klasnic picked
up a hamstring injury in training on Friday afternoon.
Borussia Mönchengladbach
suffered an end to their four game unbeaten streak.
Coach Dick Advocaat still has some work to do before the
team is clear of relegation.

Werder Bremen host Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday
February 12th in the Weser Stadium.
Mönchengladbach were the most active German club during
the transfer window in January and hope that the new
additions will help the team avoid relegation after a
rather rocky start to the season.
Should Werder wish to keep their title hopes alive, they
need to come away with three points from the match.
Werder will be missing Nelson Vladez due to suspension
and Ivan Klasnic appears to have picked up an injury,
but has not yet officially been ruled out for Saturday.
Mohammad Zidan has surprised the medical staff and has
returned to the squad, although he may not yet be fully
game fit.

Werder Bremen secured fourth place today after a hard
fought 3-2 victory in the Volkswagen Arena. The
Bundesliga Champions have 34 points in the standings and
are seven points back from leaders Bayern Munich.
VfL
Wolfsburg were up 2-0 after 49 minutes, with goals from
Brdaric and Thiam. Werder scored two goals within
9 minutes to equalize, and scored the winner in the 87th
minute. Klose, Magnin and Valdez had one goal a
piece for Werder.

Saturday February 5th
Werder Bremen are away to VfL Wolfsburg at the
Volkswagen Arena on Sunday afternoon. Wolfsburg
who experienced an extremely successful run in the first
half of the season, are essentially out of the title
race. Wolfsburg coach Eric Gerets, accepts that
the team suffered a "big blow" in last weeks defeat to
SC Freiburg.
Werder defender
Valerin Ismaël
is suspended for the match after picking up his 5th
yellow card of the season. Kristian Lisztes and
newcomer Mohamed Zidan are both out due to injury.
